Video: Wind Test for Camp Stoves
After the first video, that compared these stoves head-to-head, I had a viewer email me asking how the stoves preformed in the wind. Here is your answer!
Readers’ Opinions
- How does your stove preform in windy conditions?
- Have you had to alter your cooking (how or what) because of wind or weather?
What advice would you give to a fellow camper if she were going to buy a new camp stove?

I had a SnowPeak GigaPower stove that I liked. However, after being on a backpacking trip with some others that had the JetBoil personal cooking system, I switched to that. It brought water to a boil faster, meaning less fuel consumption. They make other pots and pans that fit on there, so you could use it for than just re-hydrating meals, but that (and hot drinks) are clearly its strength.
Marc — That is an EXCELLENT point! The more efficient the stove, the less fuel it consumes! I don’t even want to THINK about how much propane we used in filming the wind test. ESP Boss recently bought a backpacking stove — I’ll have to go see what brand it is!
